The Bridge Street bridge adjoining The Olde Irish Alehouse was originally
constructed in 1861 on the border of Boston and Dedham.
According to local historian and lecturer Ron McAdow, it replaced a
cart bridge that was built on that site in 1642.
The Olde Irish Alehouse was one of the many taverns that opened in this
area to
tend to the needs of the growing number of travelers along the
highway when Route 109 was first built.
